Andrew Cook is a partner in Cook Morris Quinn. He qualified with his LLB in 1985 and was admitted to the bar in 1986 commencing his career with one New Zealand’s larger law firms. Subsequently he was a partner in two Auckland law firms from 1994 to 2006.

Andrew practised significantly in the civil and commercial litigation field since he was admitted, appearing in a number of jurisdictions including the District and High Courts. He has also provided support in High Court cases for King’s Counsel.

Since 1991 and the introduction of the Employment Contracts Act and the Employment Relations Act 2000, Andrew has taken special interest in the area of employment law. He has attended numerous mediations and appeared in the Employment Tribunal, the Employment Relations Authority and the Employment Court. Andrew’s expertise covers all aspects of the employment relationship from the preparation of employment agreements, advice and strategy in relation to dealing with problematical employees, restructuring, dealing with serious misconduct and dismissals.

Since 2006 Andrew has expanded his practice to assist his clients with their commercial and personal legal needs including property transactions, business sales and purchases as well as estate planning and asset protection. He also assists his clients with relationship property issues including separation agreements and contracting out agreements.

Andrew is committed to his community, offering his time in a number of voluntary positions. He was previously a trustee for his local primary school for seven years. From 2005 to 2018 he was a trustee (8 of those years as Chairman) of the Big Buddy Mentoring Trust which provides mentors to fatherless boys. He was a trustee of the ISAP Trust from 2013 to 2018 which endeavours to reduce truancy and encourages children to attend and engage in school education in West Auckland. He is also a past President of the Western Districts School Children’s Cricket Association and was Chairman of the Suburbs New Lynn Cricket Club from 2013 to 2018, being made a Life Member of the Club in 2018. In 2021 Andrew was appointed the President of Suburbs New Lynn Cricket Club for a three-year term.
